Consolidated Interim Storage Facility License Application
WCS, with partners Orano USA and NAC International, have submitted an application to the NRC for a license to construct and operate a Consolidated Interim Storage Facility for used nuclear fuel. WCS currently operates a number of low-level radioactive waste disposal sites at its 14,000-acre facility in far West Texas.
In March 2018, WCS and Orano USA, a leading company in the safe management and transportation of used nuclear fuel with more than 30 years’ experience in the United States, announced their intent to form a joint venture to license a consolidated interim storage facility (CISF) for used nuclear fuel at the WCS site. The joint venture will request that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission resume its review of the CISF license application originally submitted April 2016 and docketed by the NRC for review in January 2017 (Docket No. 72-1050).
